Hi there! I am Claire – a certified Yoga practitioner and the owner of Gita Yoga Kenridge.
My personal journey with Yoga began when I was 14 years old, both as a form of physical exercise and as a way to deal with the emotional stress from a significant family trauma. For me, Yoga has always been more than just a way to improve my physical health and body. The Yogic philosophy of seeking wholeness, seeking health and balance between the mind and body is equally important to me. Yoga in all its aspects provides me the tools I need to better deal with life’s challenges with greater positivity, understanding, humility, equanimity and grace. This is what I hope to share with my yoga students.
I don’t strive to be perfect, physically emotionally or mentally, I strive to be real. I don’t claim to be enlightened or living the perfect yogic path. Im not your traditional yogi – I am not a vegetarian, I sometimes loose my temper and I love good cheese and wine (who doesn’t living in this part of world surrounded by gorgeous wine farms!) I have suffered yet I am equally blessed and loved as a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter and as a strong woman.
I look forward to welcoming you to my beautiful yoga studio and I trust that this will become a space for you that is synonymous with tranquility, personal growth and the development of happy memories and new friendships. A place where you can strengthen the body, still the mind and nourish the soul.
What is Gita style Yoga?
Gita style yoga was founded in Australia in the 1950’s at the Gita International Yoga Institute, which today has trained and certified hundreds of Yoga Teachers globally. This tested and well researched style of yoga focuses on how particular yoga poses work on the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), respiratory system (lungs) and endocrine system (hormones producing glands). The Gita style yoga programme combines classic hatha asanas (poses) with pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) and meditation. Gita style yoga is very much the yoga of our time as it directly addresses the stresses and tensions of everyday life, which contribute to the imbalances that create disease and ill health.
I am a fully qualified Gita Yoga Teacher having completed my 2 year teacher training (900hrs) in Australia in 2012. One of the most complex and rigorous Yoga Teacher Training courses offered in the Southern Hemisphere! (Most Yoga Teacher Training is 200hrs) I have since had extensive experience teaching Gita style yoga at health clubs, drug and rehabilitation centre’s, at gyms and fitness centres, universities and at corporate offices.
I am deeply passionate about the human body and wellness and I have been formally studying Health Science for a number of years. My particular interest lies in Anatomy & Physiology and I love to share my knowledge of the body and it’s working with my Yoga students. I am also fully certified in First Aid Level 3.
